The Dry Creek Striders, DCS, are a race team founded in 2020 by Collin Knaub and DJ Hummel. The team expanded in 2022 when Joel Kaar and I (Jon Raessler) joined, and then again in 2024 when Lauren Hummel began racing with us. Later in 2024, Paul Hemmick and Peter Truskey joined our ranks.
Our main race distances are 5Ks and 10Ks, though we’ve done a few shorter and longer races here and there. We also do time trials ranging from 400M-10Ks, as readers of the Untamed Runner are well-aware. Sprinkled among our races are morning training runs followed by burritos or donuts.
We don’t mandate that team members compete in a certain number of races or achieve certain levels of placement-we enjoy running and training. Yet, we also strive to be competitive and a short list of our statistics is below:
Team totals:
Overall race wins: 42 (Collin-38, DJ-3, Paul-1)
Podium Finishes (Top-3 overall, not including overall wins): 27 (DJ-10, Collin-9, Jon-8)
Masters Wins (when races offer Masters-level wins): 1 (DJ-1)
Age Group Wins: 12 (DJ-5, Jon-4, Collin-3)
Age Group Places: 14 (DJ-4, Jon-4, Lauren-3, Collin-2, Joel-1)
Among Collin’s 30 wins are 6 course records. We’ve had multiple 1-2 finishes in races across a wide variety of courses and conditions, and our first podium sweep in early 2023. Race statistics will be updated (if we earn certain places, of course) here as we compete more.
What we might be best known for is our team uniforms: neon yellow shirts and hot pink shorts, as shown in the photo above. While showing up in said colors means we better churn out a good race, per an earlier post, style can matter and we’re never short on getting questions about us when we’re at the start line.
Stay tuned here for more updates on the team…
